Assessment 1: Written draft

In addition to discussion in seminars and tutorials students will be encouraged to participate in small group discussions and present an outline of their initial ideas for their activity bag to peers. They will be able to submit to the module tutor a maximum of 500 words of their critical evaluation for formative feedback.

Assessment 2: Project Work

An Activity Bag developed for a specific child to enhance their Literacy and maths development that has been based on observations of that child. Further guidance is given in the module handbook. The assessment is eligible for tutor reassessment

Assessment 1: Written Assignment

A report which critically reflects on and evaluates the role of the practitioner in supporting literacy or mathematics which demonstrates knowledge and understanding of pedagogical principles and teaching and learning strategies. The evaluation should include relevant supporting research and theory and consider the principles of inclusive practice.

<p>This module will raise your awareness of the basic principles, concepts and processes underpinning literacy and mathematics in early years and KS1. It emphasises the knowledge and skills required to support children’s learning and development in these areas in early years and KS1. You will examine teaching and learning strategies which support progress and outcomes in each area and through cross curricula links. You will be aware of how learning and development is assessed with reference to the relevant frameworks. You will be assessed through coursework which will include an analysis of children’s work and a written evaluation of the teaching and learning strategies used.</p>
