Assessment 1: Portfolio

The coursework will involve several exercises, both theoretical and requiring mathematical programming and will have three components, (weighted at 30%, 30% and 40%). Deliverables include a report (not exceeding 6000 words) and the code produced to solve the exercises.

Portfolio

<p>Scientific computing is a key skill in the application of mathematics to solve academic and real-world problems. This module will aim to teach you the theory of linear algebra and its implementation within the appropriate software. You will learn practical applications in solving equations, optimisation problems, finding solutions to ordinary and partial differential equations, and data analysis.</p>

Scientific Computing

Demonstrate a systematic understanding of the principles of (multidimensional) root finding techniques and optimisation.

Adapt and combine algorithms to address complex problems in scientific computing.

Find and evaluate approximate solutions to systems of ordinary and partial differential equations.

Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of language of at least one software package for scientific computing and originality in its application to a range of mathematical problems.

Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the principles of numerical linear algebra including the ability to critically evaluate methodologies and select the most suitable for addressing a given problem.
