Students will undertake a series of formative exercises during tutorial and practical sessions. Feedback, advice and guidance will be provided for these exercises.

Assessment 1: Written Assignment

The submission includes 2 main parts. One is focused around the theoretical understanding of the search and heuristics techniques. The second part tests the understanding of planning models, and requires the student to generate a model and test it with existing software.

Written Assignment

<p>This module will recap on the history of automated planning from the days of STRIPS, up to the present day. It will focus on the kinds of assumptions, algorithms, heuristics and representation languages that have been used to create generative planning algorithms. It will illustrate these developments using a range of planning engines and planning platforms. Current application areas and research topics in automated planning, such as hybrid planning, will be discussed and you will be expected to develop their knowledge such that you are able to contribute to such discussions and to increase your background knowledge and understanding of issues and developments associated with AI Planning.</p>

Justify and critically discuss the key concepts of search in AI Planning and a range of planning algorithms and be able to compare and contrast their application and limitations.

Generate domain models in order to use planning engines to solve real planning problems and select appropriate planning engines in order to match the characteristics of applications.

Integrate AI planning machinery in order to solve a given planning problem.
