<p>By now you will have learned that exactly solvable systems of equations are the exception rather than the norm. While the numerical methods you have been taught provide a powerful set of tools for tackling these systems, there are many cases where an approximate analytic solution is more valuable than an accurate numerical calculation. Asymptotic methods allow you to make analytic progress by exploiting the smallness of some parameter. The module covers both the theory of asymptotic and perturbation methods and also their practical applications in mathematical modelling of real-world problems.</p>

Solve problems with singular perturbations by selecting and executing appropriate techniques.

Appraise the difference between a singular and regular perturbation.

Evaluate integrals using asymptotic methods.
