Activities providing opportunities for formative assessment will generally be integrated into the teaching and learning process and apply to all components of summative assessment.  The nature of the formative assessment tasks used will be at the discretion of the tutor, to include for example, workshop exercises, quizzes, group discussions.

The assessment will encourage students to draw on a range of crisis situations (either from their own work experience of from more external events) in order to apply their knowledge of leadership and risk management.

<p>Good leadership is one of the most important factors for ensuring organisational effectiveness and efficiency. In the public sector, there is heightened scrutiny on leadership, at both national and local level: with accountability, governance, value for money, and trust as key issues both within and external to the sector. Public sector leaders need to be sentient of current and emerging policy, political and financial management issues, within a wider landscape, valuing sustainability and responsibility. This melting pot means that public leadership decisions are complicated and require choices to be made that manage both the issue, the range of stakeholder requirements, and work towards principles of New Public Management / Leadership. In this module, learners explore four key themes: the governance challenge, financial awareness, responsible leadership and systemic risk investigation and management in order to understand how as public sector leaders, they can identify, manage or mitigate risks for their organisation and drive efficiency and effectiveness of resource utilization and policy implementation.</p>

Develop sufficient financial awareness skills to plan for, and then manage public administration value for money and accountability challenges 

Practically apply the tools and techniques from this module to future scenarios to critically evaluate appropriate analysis, leadership approaches and decision making in crisis situations

Appraise the current and emerging governance, accountability and trust challenges in effective new public management / leadership

Identify, articulate and reflect on the specific challenges of delivering responsible and sustainable projects through their understanding of governance, accountability, trust, financial management and ethics in new public management arenas

Appraise the threat of current and future global systemic risks and have the knowledge of risk management and scenario planning to enhance the resilience of themselves, their colleagues, and their organisations

Critically analyse responsible leadership and followership debates and critically assess their appropriateness for managing systemic risks in a public sector context
