Introduction to legal systemsSources of law: primary and secondaryDispute settlement and the dispute settlement bodiesIntroduction to key international courts and their jurisdictionFinding legal and non-legal sources using the Library and law databasesLegal referencing/citations using OSCOLA, and awareness of academic integrityCritical evaluation, analysis of sources and paraphrasing

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students will

Outline the various sources of law.
2.
Identify and explain the structure and functions of various courts and of significant international courts.
3.
Understand the nature and function of the different legal orders (both national and international).
4.
Understand and demonstrate the requirements for legal research and referencing.
5.
Demonstrate ability to find and use appropriate primary and secondary law sources from a range of different sites.
