BIT2015 - Planning Techniques for Logistics and Transport Operations

This module will introduce you to a range of practical and analytical planning and decision-making techniques used within the logistics industry. The theoretical part of a set of logistics planning techniques is explained in lectures whilst their application is addressed in the computing tutorials. You’ll become familiar with the use of industry specific software in the area of optimisation modelling and linear programming, transportation planning, vehicle routing, forecasting, inventory control, project planning and facility decisions.

Critically evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solve logistics problems both manually and through the use of a computer package.

Effectively analyse the results generated, test alternative scenarios where appropriate and assess their relevance to the project objective.

Understand the key stages involved in developing models within appropriate computer software.

Use a range of established techniques to initiate and undertake critical analysis of information, and propose solutions to problems arising from that analysis.

Appreciate the applications and limitations of these models.
