Activities providing opportunities for formative assessment will generally be integrated into the teaching and learning process and apply to all components of summative assessment.  The nature of the formative assessment tasks used will be at the discretion of the tutor, to include for example, workshop exercises, quizzes, group discussions.

Dissertation projects are wide ranging and students are encouraged to work in areas of particular interest as long as they are salient to the general topic of global marketing.  In order to support them in the research process they are required to submit a research proposal (including a literature review of at least 1,500, (2,000 words maximum) words by the end of week 8 of the start of their dissertation work. The research project must be written up using an appropriate format and may use material presented in the proposal.  The expected word limit for the dissertation is 12,000 words with a minimum of 10,000 and maximum of 15,000 words excluding appendices.

Write a feasible research proposal which includes a critical review of an area of global marketing, explicating the implications of that review for a specific research question for further investigation.

Systematically develop the research proposal into a formal empirical investigation; using a research methodology to gather data for analysis and critical interpretation, culminating in the writing of a research report to professional standards.
