Assessment 1: Oral presentation/assessment

A range of formative devices will be used by tutors to aid learning. The exact nature of these assessment devices will be tailored to the individual needs of the students studying the module but will include the use of peer reviewed formative presentations during the module tutorial sessions.

Assessment 2: Presentation

A group presentation of 20 minutes including an oral examination of the team members and supporting documentary evidence, based on the group’s experiences of the Portfolio Game.

Investment and Portfolio Management

Understand the role of and the need for the regulatory bodies and the changing patterns of investor profiles.

Explain the issues involved in managing investment portfolios and the impact of performance data on investors and portfolio managers.

Understand the operation of the primary, secondary, gilt, options and futures markets.

Be able to contrast the theoretical approaches to portfolio management with reported practice and their own experience from participation in the ‘Portfolio Game’.

Recognise the main characteristics of various types of investment and to apply them in scenarios considering various investment alternatives and or combinations.

Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the various factors that affect the valuation of 		securities.

Be aware of the opportunities and dangers offered by international diversification, and to explain some of the available hedging techniques.

Manage a portfolio of securities and be aware of the difficulties associated with portfolio management.

Present information, analysis and recommendations in a clear, concise and professional manner.
