Assessment 1: In-Class Test

A range of formative devices typically in-class tests/mock exams, formative feedback on summative assessments, reviews of files and folders etc., will be used by tutors to aid learning. The exact nature of these assessment devices is at the discretion of the module tutor.

This is an unseen open book examination. 
 
Materials allowed: Students are permitted to take in a maximum of 4 sides of A4 of their own notes, which are either typed or handwritten.

Open-book Exam

This module will enable you to acquire a thorough understanding of the principles of criminal liability, and how these principles are applied to specific offences.  A range of offences will be considered, including homicide, offences against the person (such as assault and battery) and property offences (theft, burglary, robbery and fraud). You will also acquire knowledge of the basis of a defendant’s liability and the skills to apply your knowledge in problem situations.

Criminal Law

Effectively structure a coherent explanation of potential arguments that evaluates the relationships between legal theory and practice.

Develop an understanding of aspects of the fundamental legal principles of criminal law, within their social, institutional and cultural contexts. 

Demonstrate an ability to evaluate and apply theoretical concepts, principles and rules of criminal law to legal problems and scenarios, exploring the merit of potential arguments and drawing reasoned conclusions.

Effectively communicate solutions to legal problems, arguments and analysis within the context of criminal law. 

Develop an ability to identify and use appropriate primary and secondary legal materials, with accurate legal referencing.
