Assessment 1: Portfolio

Portfolio of written exercises. A mixture of short answer and essay-style questions relating to the historical, critical, and analytical approaches covered during projects one and two of the module. These will be a mixture of research-based, analytical, and reflective tasks, primarily structured as preparation and/or consolidation work for teaching sessions.

Assessment 2: Presentation

Research-based group presentation. Students will work collaboratively on tutor-approved projects related to project three of the module. Each group member will receive the same mark. Groups will be able to present their work using any combination of appropriate formats, which might include oral and/or multimedia presentation, compositional work and/or performance.

<p>Popular Music Studies introduces you to a range of analytical, critical, and theoretical approaches to popular music of the twentieth century and beyond. You will explore popular music from social, cultural, economic, and technological standpoints as well as aesthetic ones, with case studies ranging from rock ‘n’ roll and Philly soul through to hip-hop, chart pop, and electronica.  </p>
