A folio of two arrangements (one from a piano work, the other from an orchestral work) for either brass band or symphonic wind orchestra.

Assessment 2: Project Work

A completed transcription, arrangement or composition for brass band or symphonic wind orchestra.
Students must write for both symphonic wind orchestra and brass band across the two assessments (so if writing for brass band for assessment 1, assessment 2 will then have to be for symphonic wind orchestra).
 

Project Work

<p>Following an introduction to the instrumentation of the brass band and symphonic wind orchestra, you will investigate techniques of writing idiomatically and resourcefully for these instruments by means of the study and analysis of various hymn tune, piano and orchestral works. Practical workshops and class discussions in lectures will encourage professional skills in working in collaborative situations, utilising scoring techniques and critical reflection. These skills will be developed through the study and analysis of key works composed or arranged for brass band or symphonic wind orchestra.</p>
