Assessment 1: Project work

Formative assessment is ongoing and includes in-class feedback on design projects. Students will also be given the opportunity to do a formative presentation, in preparation for Assessment 2.

An individual project. It consists of the production of a proposed magazine front cover and associated reflective commentary.

Assessment 2: Project Work

An individual contribution to a group project. Each group, typically four students, will produce a 30-minute presentation of a proposal for a new magazine title, including sample materials. It is assessed by observation and submission of individual contributions to the group effort. Sample pages can be incorporated into each student’s PDP.

<p>The module analyses the diversity and complexity of the magazine market and considers the nature of magazine design and production. You will examine the economics, costs, techniques, and organisation of design and production, and investigate the nature of the publishing industry. The module also looks at the market for new magazines, and you will look at how editors and publishers identify and develop new opportunities, allowing you to develop your own entrepreneurial ideas. You will work with design software packages used in the magazine industry.</p>
