Assessment 1: Project work

The formative element of this module is ongoing. Each week in preparation for and during practical classes, students perform tasks and receive feedback from the module tutor as they work towards both assessments. They will also deliver informal pitches of their initial ideas during class time, allowing for verbal feedback and editorial guidance from the tutor.

The production of the feature itself, submitted along with supporting compliance documentation.

Assessment 1: Written Assignment

A written treatment for a proposed non-fiction video feature. A treatment is a document which gives a detailed summary of an idea, with a view to ‘selling’ it to an editor or commissioner. In this example, the treatment would typically include a description of the story with background information, and an indication of the elements that would be included in the finished piece, including details of the main interviewees and filming locations.

Written Assignment

The module develops your essential skills in planning and making video journalism. It has a focus on longer-form video outputs, such as features. It emphasises creativity in non-fiction storytelling as well as technical quality. Production elements of the module will include using industry-standard cameras, and developing greater proficiency in video editing, as you create your own mini-documentary.
