Assessment 1: Portfolio (including examples)

The formative element of this module is ongoing. Each week in preparation for and during practical classes and newsdays, students perform tasks and receive feedback from both module tutors and guest editors as appropriate, as they gather material for their assessed portfolios.  (equivalent to 1,000 words)

Assessment 1: Portfolio

Portfolio: An individual portfolio of short-form video news items suitable for TV news bulletins, online and/or social media output, to include contributions to outputs produced during newsdays.

Assessment 2: Portfolio

Portfolio: An individual portfolio of longer-form video news and feature items suitable for TV magazine programmes, online and/or social media output, to include contributions to outputs produced during newsdays.

Assessment 3: Written Assignment

Written Assignment: An individual evaluative report assessing the work produced in the module in the context of the current media landscape.

<p>The module develops your essential skills in planning and making news and feature-based video journalism material for television, online and social media use, as well as producing news and magazine programmes in the TV studio and on location. You will be expected to contribute to all editorial decisions concerning the content of the outputs, including video news and feature stories, news bulletins, magazine programmes, and online production. Emphasis will also be placed on recognising legal and ethical journalistic practice. Production elements of the module will include using relevant technology involved in newsgathering, for example broadcast quality cameras, current digital editing software and a fully equipped television studio. You will analyse the outputs you have produced and evaluate your own contribution through a reflective report. The module also introduces theories and practices of production management.</p>
