<p>On this module you will learn about the language of humour, including theories explaining why certain texts are funny, the role of humour in interaction, and its relationship to laughter. You will critically assess articles which investigate various aspects of humour from a range of different theoretical and methodological perspectives. These theories and research findings will be used to analyse a diverse range of humorous texts including stand-up comedy, jokes and informal interaction.</p>

be able to write an assignment including critical analysis of data and discussion of appropriate literature.

have knowledge of a range of theories of humour and of the conventions and functions of humorous discourse.

be able to present some original critical analysis of humorous discourse.
