<p>On this module you will study the aftermaths of the First World War and attempts at peacebuilding and postwar reconstruction.  You will also consider the idea of the ‘Greater War’ to examine conflicts that extended beyond the armistice in 1918.  You will investigate the work of new international organisations such as the League of Nations and Save the Children Fund in this period of conflict and flux, as well as the experiences of individuals and cultural responses.  Its geographical focus is Britain, but this is set in the context of international movements and global challenges.</p>

be able to demonstrate in-depth historical knowledge of the period following the First World War and some of the global challenges faced by international organisations, enabling a reflection on the legacies of this period on current affairs and for concepts of global citizenship.

be able to communicate clearly and concisely in a variety of ways with appropriate accurate referencing both verbally in groups and in written assessments;

be able to work in groups to evaluate and interpret significant bodies of primary material pertaining to case studies of humanitarian and pollical interventions in the aftermath of the First World War and relate these to wider historical debates.

be able to offer an increasingly independent and critical perspective on the historiography of humanitarian interventions, international political activism, and refugee movements.

be able to interpret a significant body of primary source materials in the completion of written document analyses.

be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of digital literacy.

be able to work flexibly and imaginatively as an individual and in groups, as appropriate, when faced with a variety of challenging case studies.

be able to demonstrate awareness of the historical and ethical imperatives for studying marginalised and displaced people and the methodological and ethical challenges of their representation.
