1 x Pitch for TV/radio documentary, or digital learning object of 10 minutes with supporting documentation to demonstrate understanding of an aspect of the representation of community and/or identity using the concepts of gender and/or religion in the medieval past (equivalent to 2000 words)
It will normally be expected that the pitch will be made orally but an alternative form of assessment will be provided if an adjustment is appropriate

1 x Resource survey (2000 words) to explore and critically evaluate a body of historical sources (documentary, visual and/or other) to act as a resource for the final exercise.

<p>This is a special subject module which will explore the construction and negotiation of community and identity in the later middle ages, through the lenses of gender and religion. In the 21st century ‘the religious turn’ has focused attention on the need to understand these interactions, and the module will encourage you  to develop and explore your own case study and consider how you would share that with a wider world. The subject matter will explore topics such as the layman and laywoman in the parish, the monastic or cathedral community, the beggar, the leper and the almshouse, the bishop and the heretics, encountering the other: Christians, Jews, Muslims and other traditions.</p>
