Assessment 1: Written assignment (coursework)

Formative feedback is ongoing. Students will receive informal verbal feedback and editorial guidance from module tutors and guest editors, during practical classes and newsdays. Students will also receive two hours of individual voice training from an industry professional, with verbal and written feedback.

Written Assignment

Assessment 1: In-Class Test

Assessment 1 is an in-class test on media law, journalism ethics, media regulation and principles of newsroom management. This takes the form of an open book test students will sit remotely.

Assessment 2: Portfolio

Assessment 2 is an individual portfolio of sports journalism outputs produced across platforms, produced in preparation for and/or during newsdays. Examples will typically include a television sports news package, a radio package, programme segment or bulletin, a captioned video for social media output, a written online sports news story or liveblog, and a longer-form TV magazine programme which the student contributed to. Students will also be required to submit a covering document with details of each element, their contribution to any group programmes, and other relevant supporting information.

<p>This module provides the advanced knowledge and practical skills for you to understand the technical, legal and professional standards involved in producing content and broadcasting from a sports newsroom. It will enable you to achieve professional standards of capability in newsgathering, editing and presentation. This will be in a range of outputs in various media including video, audio and written work. In particular, it will stress the importance of team skills in the newsroom context. The aim is to encourage you to produce work which will have a beneficial impact on your employability.</p>
