There will also be a presentation of each business idea in class for formative feedback from the module tutor and an industry professional.

Students will take part in a structured ideas generation hackday session at the beginning of the process of working on Assessment 2, with feedback given in class by the tutor and peers.

Assessment 1: Written Assignment

Assessment 1 is an academic report. Students will each research and use an existing technological tool, assigned to them by the tutor, to create a piece of journalism. Students will write a report reflecting on the process, relating it to literature on innovative journalistic practice. They will also submit evidence of the work they have created using the tool.

Assessment 2: Written Assignment

Assessment 2 is a business plan. Students will create an individual business plan for a potential start-up company, based on an innovation within journalism or media. The plan will showcase professional development activities in creative innovation, as well as reflective processes.

<p>You will gain an advanced critical understanding of digital media technologies, and how online and social media tools can be applied to journalism and media production in innovative and enterprising ways. You will work in to identify a new tool, or an existing tool applied in a new method, which can be used in journalism or media production. You will develop a plan for a start-up journalism or media business based on your learning and research.</p>
