Attain the highest academic and professional standards. Enjoy an outstanding university experience. Become employable and enterprising graduates. Our objectives are: To promote a culture of learning where expectations of staff and students are high. To inspire and challenge our students in their learning including developing robust processes for self-directed learning. To consider and react to the diverse needs of our student body to ensure a high quality learning experience for all our students. To engage students by enrichment, high-quality and individually-aimed teaching in all aspects for their programme. To provide frequent and personalised feedback on assessment. To ensure all teaching staff have access to relevant CPD which informs high-quality teaching and learning monitored by regular teaching observations, both management and peer to further enhance the teaching and learning environment especially with regard to individualised learning. To provide a safe, secure and challenging environment in which the “student voice” is welcomed and acted upon. To provide students with timely and appropriate support in all aspects of their learning experience. Huddersfield International Study Centre encourages students to be academic citizens who are self-directed and motivated learners. In order to achieve this, key skills such as critical thinking, self-reflection and good academic practice form an integral part of teaching, learning and assessment activities. The development of skills for success, employability and professionalism are also fundamental to curriculum content and delivery. To facilitate the independent learner, teaching will mainly take place through small interactive group sessions in which students are encouraged to explore content, ask questions, contribute to discussions and reflect on their progress. The importance of engaging in sufficient independent study is promoted to support success and the development of skills for further study. Emphasis is placed on individualised learning and avoiding teaching to the middle, to ensure that the learning needs of each student are met. Each teaching session is supported by learning and assessment resources on the module VLE page on Brightspace. These include weekly objectives, words to learn, slides/learning resources, interactive activities including formative assessments, useful videos and independent study materials. Regular formative assessment is embedded to provide opportunities to review progress, motivate and support all learners through the effective use of feedback. For students with additional learning needs, Personal Learning Support Plans are produced in collaboration with the University’s Disability Services and through these, reasonable adjustments for teaching, learning and assessment are planned in advance for the duration of the student journey.
