The Selection Proces 
Partnership with employers - 
Once a learner has made the application to the host employer, the HEI will be involved in the selection process to ensure that all the necessary academic requirements, standards and equality of all applicants is considered.   This selection process aims to provide both the applicant and the selection team with the details required to make a two-way informed decision.  It is for this reason that all suitable candidates are invited for Open Days and given the opportunity to look round the University and division as well as being able to talk with staff and existing learners.  This is a very important two-way process. All applicants are recommended to have undertaken shadowing experience in a Podiatry environment.
Offers are usually based on the applicants achieving the required academic qualifications, an occupational health clearance and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to meet professional and regulatory standards.  In some instances, applicants already have the required academic qualifications.  In these cases, they may be given an unconditional place on the course.
Learners are required to comply with the protective vaccination course provided by the relevant employer’s Occupational Health Department, within 6 months of enrolment to the course, to maintain eligibility to undertake clinical practice, both in the University clinics and Placement settings.

Assessment rules and honours classification
The degree will be classified in line with the awarding Higher Education Institute classifications for BSc (hons) and MSc degrees. The apprenticeship will be graded using Fail, Pass or Distinction.
<ul>
<li>Minimum pass mark is 40% for each module</li>
<li>Identities of individuals and organisations should be anonymised and confidences respected. Consent should be obtained from individual patients/clients for use of any of their personal health information.</li>
<li>All modules must be passed.</li>
<li>Full clinical attendance is required prior to progression</li>
<li>In theory/practice modules there is no compensation between theory and practice;</li>
<li>All practice elements must be passed at 40%</li>
<li>Compensation between theoretical assessments is permitted unless professional or statutory body requirements necessitate otherwise.</li>
<li>There is no condonement allowed on this course</li>
<li>To qualify for the award of Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship , learners must complete and pass all the course requirements</li>
<li>The apprentice’s employer, in consultation with the training provider will confirm that the apprentice is eligible to progress to the end point assessment. Eligibility is confirmed once the apprentice has met the criteria for progression to end point assessment. In order to progress to end point assessment, apprentices must meet the following criteria:</li>
<li>Achievement of English and Mathematics qualification at a minimum of level 2</li>
<li>Achievement of 340 credits of the Integrated BSc (hons) degree in Podiatry or 160 credits of the pre-registration MSc degree in Podiatry from the on programme apprenticeship formally confirmed prior to the gateway progression. The final 20 credits of the degree will be attributed to end point assessment</li>
<li>Achievement of the knowledge, skills and behaviours in the standard</li>
<li>Confirmation from the employer that the requirements of the apprentice standard has been met within the apprentices workplace and that they deem the apprentice ready to be put forward to end point assessment</li>
<li>Issues relating to poor professional conduct or poor performance on placement are considered in line with placement documentation.</li>

 Role of External Examiners
External examiners are approved through Course Committees before being appointed by School Boards and approved by University Learning and Teaching Committee
The role of the examiner is to ensure academic and professional standards are maintained through:

<li>Review a sample of coursework and examinations, including attendance at the final practical examination</li>
<li>Attendance at course assessment boards</li>
</ul>
The External examiner reports separately to the University and the College of Podiatry, for whom they act as Chief External Examiner for the course.

Within the School, learners are represented at committee level from Student/Learner Panels to the School Board. The School also has a Student Council.  Individual feedback on the quality and standards of teaching and learning is received through module and course evaluations.
An effective external examination system is managed by Registry and all reports are viewed at University, School and course levels.  External examiner and learner feedback, as well as all statistical data about the course, is reported through the course committee structure and scrutinised through the University wide annual evaluation process.
Professional and Statutory Bodies: The Health and Care Professions Council, as the statutory body, undertakes an annual monitoring process of the provision against its Standards of Education and Training and Standards of Proficiencies.  A visit to review or monitor standards on the course is undertaken when significant change to the provision has been implemented. The College of Podiatry, as the Professional Body, monitor and accredit the course through a quinquennial approval process.  They also verify the external examiner who is approved by the College when appointed to the University.
All forms of feedback, including a review of progression and completion rates are included in annual course monitoring report.  This is considered through the process of annual evaluation of courses.  This enables areas of weakness to be identified and clear action plans to be determined and monitored.  In addition to the annual monitoring processes the university organises a quinquennial review at school level.
Monitoring of staff is conducted through peer observation of teaching and annual personal development reviews.  These enable areas for staff development to be identified.  They may concern professional practice or teaching and learning.  Staff are expected to gain fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and all staff are required to gain a post-graduate qualification towards their quality of teaching and learning.

At course level support is provided by:
Personal Academic Tutor (PAT)
 The University has implemented a personal academic tutor system for all learners.  This system aims to both improve the learner experience of learning and teaching, and increase learner retention and achievement rates.  Specifically, personal academic tutors: 
<ul>
<li>Provide a personal contact for the learner within the University and the School.</li>
<li>Act as a liaison between the learner and course leaders to seek any improvements required</li>
<li>Offer guidance, assistance and support in managing the learners’ academic experience</li>
<li>Recognise when the problems presented are beyond the personal tutors’ competence and seek guidance and support for the learner through the University and/or School referral processes.</li>
<li>Work with learners to review and reflect upon their own progress and if necessary on ways to improve it.</li>
<li>Take part in supportive training events.</li>
<li>Tripartite contact with the PAT and employer representative at a minimum of every 12 weeks</li>
</ul>
Where personal academic tutor arrangements do not apply, the first point of contact for learners is the Student Hub.
Module Leader
The module leader is responsible for teaching, learning and assessment of the modules within this course.
Course Leader
The course leader is responsible for the entire quality assurance arrangements for the course.
Year Leader 
The year leader is responsible for a management of a particular year of a course.
Placement Educators/Workplace Mentors
The clinical placement has a nominated placement facilitator/workplace mentor.  This individual is the contact and point of liaison between the University Placement Lead and the University P.A.T. for each individual learner.
