Analytical Chemistry - UH-000302

<p>The entry requirements will normally be one of the following.</p>
<ul>
<li>An honours degree (2(ii) or above) in Chemistry, Biological Science and Pharmacy or in a subject of which Chemistry has formed a significant part.</li>
<li>Graduate membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry.</li>
<li>An ordinary degree in Chemistry or its equivalent such as GRSC Part 1 or FIMLS plus a minimum of two years relevant industrial experience and such preliminary studies as are deemed necessary.</li>
<li>For non-UK students, evidence of spoken and written English of a sufficient standard to undertake the course is required (typically IELTS 6.0 or equivalent).</li>

Master of Science

To teach the student the principles of quality control and assurance.

To train the student to think critically about, and make informed choices between proposed analytical techniques, methods and instruments.

To train the student in the methods of experimental design and the creation of new methods or novel modifications or combinations of existing methods. 

To give the student experience of handling and interpretation of a wide range of analytical data.

To train the student in independent study.

To provide the student with familiarity with the current analytical literature and in particular to enable them to review, select, read and critically discuss the papers most relevant to a particular topic.

To develop the techniques of communication including report writing, poster and oral presentation.

To provide the student with a thorough understanding of the basic principles of analysis, including design of sampling programme, pre-treatment, data handling and of the instrumentation used in modern analysis.

To educate the student in the interpretation of data.

To enable the student to apply his or her knowledge to the practical solution of real analytical problems.

To enable the student to appreciate the broader role of the Analytical Scientist in both industry and research.
