Accountancy with Financial Services  - UH-000282

<a name="_Toc22629842"></a><a name="_Toc22629889"></a>The University’s policy for Admission is outlined in Section D of the Regulations for Awards Handbook (<a href="http://www.hud.ac.uk/registry/index.php/awards_regulations.php">http://www.hud.ac.uk/registry/index.php/awards_regulations.php</a>). In addition to the standard University requirements entrants will be from a variety of backgrounds, encompassing NVQs, AVCEs (Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education), AS and A2 Levels, BTEC and those who have pursued professional accountancy qualifications in the past.  Applications from mature students would be welcomed and some evidence of recent study or relevant work experience would be sought.
A pass at GCSE at or above grade C (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English would normally be required although this could be waived where other evidence of students’ abilities in these areas exist.
Direct entry onto the second or final year of the programme would be possible for suitably qualified applicants.
Overseas applicants will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English. This requirement will normally be met by a TOEFL score of 550, and IELTS score of 6, or equivalent.

Students will be supported by a number of staff associated with the programme, as indicated below:
<ul>
<li>module tutors and module leaders, in the context of module-specific problems</li>
<li>year tutors: each year cohort will have a year tutor with specific responsibility for matters affecting the year group as a whole. The year tutor acts as facilitator and co-ordinator, ensuring that up to date attendance and assessment records of students are kept. Student attendance is monitored in accordance with the university regulations, and students who fail to attend regularly are contacted to ensure that there are no major problems being encountered.</li>
<li>Programme Leader, with responsibility for course-level issues and as an alternative source of support to year tutors</li>
<li>Business Placement Unit, which supports students in placement activity. Staff from the unit run a series of seminars at the beginning of the second year on the placement process, CV design, covering letters and interview techniques</li>
<li>placement supervisor: students are allocated a placement supervisor who visit once per year. The role of the supervisor is to meet the line manager, establish the nature of work assigned to the student, discuss progress of the student, assess and give formal and informal feedback and identify any problems</li>
<li>personal tutor system: the personal tutor role is seen as an important one within the programme, particularly in the first two years, offering students a clearly identified and accessible ‘contact person’ for pastoral and academic concerns and issues. The personal tutor is responsible for providing students with counselling and guidance concerning academic performance and progress, supporting and advising students with personal difficulties, and facilitating the operation of the attendance monitoring policy.</li>
<li>where students have special educational needs alternative assessment strategies or documentation formats may be provided. Student support is also available through the Business School  Learning Development Group (for example regarding dyslexia) and the University’s Disability Office.</li>
