Business Management Professional - UH-000232

The University’s policy for Admissions is outlined in Section D of the Regulations for Awards Handbook (http://www.hud.ac.uk/registry/regulationsandpolicies/awards/).  In addition to the standard University requirements, candidates must meet the following criteria for admission to BA (Hons) Business Management Professional.

<li>Learners must hold English and Mathematics at level 2, or equivalent.</li>
<li>Specific entry requirements will be reviewed annually and made available prior to application. Learners are normally expected as a minimum to hold qualifications at level 3, or equivalent.</li>
<li>Learners should not already hold a degree in a business-related subject, though holders of a different subject discipline may apply.</li>
<li>Mature learners are considered on an individual basis</li>
<li>Candidates from other countries are expected to offer qualifications equivalent to the UK entry criteria.</li>

To exhibit skills related to managing people including communication, team building, empowerment, leadership and motivating others. 

To understand how to undertake research, data analysis, problem solving and make decisions within a work-based context. 

To understand the role of enterprise in a business context and demonstrate skills relating to innovation and creativity. 

To demonstrate a knowledge of the highly integrated nature of business and management across a range of sectors.

To display appropriate knowledge and ability to manage oneself in the workplace and be personally effective.

To build and maintain collaborative relationships. 

To exhibit an understanding of interpersonal excellence through knowing how to lead people and develop collaborative relationships. These relationships may be internal or external to the organisation.

Learners on the Business Management Professional will be members of the CMI and operate within the CMI’s Code of Conduct and Practice. The code can be accessed on www.managers.org.uk 

To demonstrate their abilities as a chartered manager learners should exhibit the following behaviours required by the CMI; take responsibility and drive to achieve in all aspects of their work; adopt an open, approachable, authentic, and inclusive approach; be agile and flexible to the needs of the organisation and behave in a professional manner that sets an example to others.

To demonstrate conceptual and critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. 

To be aware of the values, ethics and governance of the organisation and the impact of these upon the operation of the business and organisational strategies and plans. 

To demonstrate emotional intelligence and empathy. 

To demonstrate commercial acumen based on an awareness of the key drivers for business success, causes of failure and the importance of providing customer satisfaction and building customer loyalty. 

An ability to work collaboratively both internally and with external customers and an awareness of mutual interdependence. 

To set their learning on the Business Management Professional into a work-based context and, where appropriate, deliver outcomes through their assessed work that benefits their organisation.

To be able to critically analyse information to solve problems. 

To articulate and effectively explain information. 

To be able to self-manage in the workplace including time management, goal setting, and prioritising activities.

To demonstrate a critical understanding of how to deliver long-term organisational performance across the following areas; operational strategy, project management, business finance, sales and marketing and digital business and new technologies.

To demonstrate numeracy skills including analysing data, and managing financial information. 

To communicate effectively using written, verbal, non-verbal and digital forms. 

To be able to self-reflect and self-analyse in order to engage in professional and personal development planning. 

To be aware of the interrelationships between the different functions of a business.

An ability to work with people from a range of cultures and diverse backgrounds. 

To be aware of the importance of networking and use of interpersonal skills including effective listening, negotiating, influencing techniques and persuasion.

To analyse and evaluate a range of business data, sources of information and appropriate methodologies which includes the need for strong digital literacy, and to use that research for evidence-based decision-making. 

To understand the nature of the business environment in which the organisation operates including a consideration of the dynamic and changing nature of business and meeting the needs of stakeholders.

Course approved by Chartered Management Institute on rolling basis.

Learners will be supported by a number of staff associated with the course, as indicated below:
<ul>
<li>Module tutors and module leaders, in the context of module-specific problems</li>
<li>Year tutors: each year cohort will have a year tutor with specific responsibility for matters affecting the year group as a whole.</li>
<li>Course leader, with responsibility for course-level issues and as an alternative source of support to year tutors</li>
<li>Work-based learning coaches. All learners will be allocated a work-based learning coach from within the school. The primary remit will be to conduct the quarterly tripartite review with the learner and their employer. The work-based learning coach will also be another avenue of general support between reviews.</li>
<li>Where leaners have special educational needs, alternative assessment strategies or documentation formats may be provided. Support is also available through the school's  Academic Skills team (for example regarding dyslexia) and the University’s Disability Office.</li>
