An induction programme will be held at the beginning of the course to orientate the students towards studying in an HE context. This includes support at the school and university levels (Section 15). Students will be exposed to a range of teaching and learning and assessment approaches, combined in ways thought to be most appropriate by the subject specialists delivering the modules to achieve the outcomes specified in Section 12. These will include, for example, lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, computer aided learning packages, case study analysis and directed study. Use will be made use of the University’s VLE and other e-learning methods where appropriate. Students will have the opportunity to develop their IT skills through the use of specialist software packages that are relevant to their course. Formative assessment will be provided in all modules, as appropriate to the subject matter, to allow students to gain tutor feedback on their work before formal summative assessment takes place. Assessment aims to support learning and to measure achievement.  Assessment methods are described in each module specification and module guide. All learning outcomes in a module are assessed and the mode of assessment is specified for each outcome. Therefore, students with varying work experiences are not disadvantaged as the assessment is set out to assess their knowledge and skills in subject areas. Individual academic tutoring is available for students who feel the need to enhance specific aspects of their assessment. Assessment methods may include portfolio exercises, Individual assignments, reports, verbal presentations, group projects and presentations, case studies, etc. The nature of the assessment varies from module to module and mirrors the modes of communication expected of professionals in this field e.g., report writing, presentations, and case studies and use of digital technologies. The applied nature of the module assessment (typically applied in students’ work context or organisations they are familiar with) helps facilitate various aspects of personal development, including personal awareness and reflection, career planning, developing independence /confidence, valuing differences, engaging people, leading & developing people and developing collaborative relationships. Details of module assessment are provided in the module specification documents available on the School’s Module Guide of the University’s Intranet site. http://halo.hud.ac.uk/moduleguides/
