The Events Manager will understand the role of the expert in their respective fields and be able to engage and work in concert with specialists in delivering Events. The course has been designed to reflect the diverse range of roles and organisations in which Events Managers are employed. In order to successfully carry out the role of an Events Manager, graduates require a breadth of subject knowledge and practical skills and competencies. The course structure will build and develop the students’ intellectual capabilities and skills from foundation through to honours level. The development of students’ practical skills and competencies in carrying out an event will be achieved by a range of progressive learning opportunities, from learning to and organising in a small event year one, to managing an event for a charity in year two, a supervised work experience placement in year three, culminating in the opportunity to be involved in an Event on behalf of a client in year four. The course is a vocational degree course which will lead to a range of careers in Events Management and related fields and which meets the academic requirements of the University of Huddersfield for the award of a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours. The aims of core modules are To provide students with the appropriate theoretical and conceptual understanding of key topical political, social, cultural, environmental, economic and ethical issues that apply to the events, marketing and industry. To examine the practical application of project management theory, models and tools through applied study. To provide a sound grounding of event operations and the legal environment involved in the provision of events planning. To develop students understanding of general management and administration and the role of managers in the events, marketing and tourism industry. To produce graduates who can communicate in an effective way. To develop students’ ability to think creatively and analytically in order to provide an evaluation of relevant solutions to a wide range of problems. To prepare students for employment in the Events, Marketing and Tourism Industry, by providing applied learning opportunities throughout the course.
