Structure

Knowledge of the origins and historical development of international crime, war, armed confrontations, security threats, and counter-measures in the context of modern conflicts across the world.

Ability to examine at an advanced level events, ideas, and approaches key to understanding crime, criminological theory, international crime, international conflict and security issues.

Ability to gather, organise, deploy, and evaluate evidence from secondary and primary sources.

Ability to work independently, demonstrating project planning, self-organisation, and time management

In-depth and evaluative knowledge of the causes of crime and contemporary conflicts and an understanding of crime prevention, conflict resolution, and counter threat approaches. 

Advanced and comprehensive knowledge of particular specialist areas of international conflict and security.

Ability to reflect on own learning and seek and make use of constructive feedback.

Ability to work as part of a team demonstrating collaboration with others to achieve common goals

To be flexible and adaptive to the requirements of a complex and changing environment. 

Ability to design, plan, and conduct research

Personal Academic Tutor
The University has implemented a personal academic tutor system. This system aims to both improve the student experience of learning and teaching and increase student retention and achievement rates. Specifically, personal tutors:

<li>Provide a personal contact for the student within the University and the School.</li>
<li>Act as a liaison between the student and course leaders to seek any improvements required</li>
<li>Offer guidance, assistance and support in managing the students’ academic experience</li>
<li>Recognise when the problems presented are beyond the personal tutors’ competence and seek guidance and support for the student through the University and/or School referral processes.</li>
<li>Work with students to review and reflect upon their own progress and if necessary on ways to improve it</li>
<li>Take part in supportive training events</li>
</ul>
