Criminology and Evidence-Based Policing - UH-000615

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is not required for admission to this course. Success on gaining entry on the course and award of a master’s degree is not connected to acceptance to the Police. Applicants and students are advised that this course is not accredited by the College of Policing and as such it is a non-qualifying course. Applicants and students should consult the College of Policing website and/or website of specific Police Forces for application or promotion requirements and procedures.

Independently design, plan and conduct ethical practice-focused research.

Critically debate the challenges and issues inherent in a particular specialist area of focus related to crime and evidence-based policing.

Conduct advanced level research and analyse the resulting data, including ethical, theoretical and methodological considerations.

Work independently, demonstrating project planning, self-organisation and time-management skills.

Critically apply complex research findings, concepts, and theoretical ideas to understand and explain contemporary policing practice.

Deliver clearly presented, well-structured and coherently reasoned oral and written academic arguments.

Critically examine and evaluate at an advanced level contemporary policing and crime policy and practice, with particular relevance to evidence-based policing.

Critically evaluate the key research tools employed to understand contemporary evidence-based policing.

Critically appreciate the theories, concepts, and approaches that characterise contemporary policing and evidence-based practice and scholarship, both in England and Wales and internationally.
