Quality and Standards
<ul>
<li>The University's Teaching and Learning Committee has ultimate responsibility for quality and standards of teaching and learning in the University.</li>
<li>The School Board, via the School Teaching and Learning Committee has responsibility for implementing university policy through school-defined procedures.</li>
</ul>
Monitoring, Development and Evaluation
<ul>
<li>The Course Committee is responsible for the monitoring and development of the Course or programme, taking account of feedback from both staff and students. Feedback is sought as follows:
<ul>
<li>From students through annual course and module evaluation questionnaires, Student Panel meetings and input from student members of the Course Committee;</li>
<li>From Course assessment board minutes, assessment moderation reports and informal verbal communication during the year.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>The annual evaluation of the Course/programme is the responsibility of the School Board. The Course Committee prepares an annual evaluation report comprising reporting and evaluation, informed by feedback from staff and students and by statistical data.</li>
<li>Reports are considered by the Annual Evaluation Committee which includes a nominated representative of the University’s Teaching and Learning Committee. The School Board considers the minutes and identifies any actions required at School level. The School Board reports to the University’s Teaching and Learning Committee that, in turn, identifies any actions required at University level.</li>
</ul>
Validation of Courses, Modules and Changes

<li>Course validation takes place under the University's Quality Assurance Procedures for Taught Programmes.</li>
<li>Amendments to Course/programme/module documents validated by School Accreditation and Validation Panel.</li>
</ul>
Teaching and Learning
<ul>
<li>The School Teaching and Learning Panel, a sub-committee of the School Teaching and Learning Committee, is tasked with implementing the University's teaching and learning strategy and with fostering innovation in teaching and learning and the dissemination of good practice.</li>
<li>A process for the peer observation of teaching is in place with the object of enhancing teaching practice and sharing ideas between staff.</li>
<li>A programme evaluation questionnaire is distributed annually to students and the results considered by Programme Committee</li>
<li>The Staff Student Liaison Committee meets once a term and matters of concern are reported to the Programme Committee.</li>
<li>Each module is evaluated on an annual basis and a short report considered by the Programme Committee.</li>

<li>The role of the Year Tutor is to oversee a particular year of a course (or a number of related courses). Year Tutors are responsible for the day-to-day management of the course and for dealing sympathetically with students' problems such as requests for extensions to coursework deadlines (for example, following a period of illness) or claims for extenuating circumstances in examinations. Year Tutors will also liaise closely with the Personal Tutors when problems are identified (such as poor attendance by a student or a failure to submit a piece of work for assessment) and with Course Leaders regarding issues such as student progression and course development.</li>
<li>Course Leaders have ultimate responsibility for the development, management, and operation of their courses. Course Leaders will have a close day to day involvement with their courses.</li>
<li>In terms of computing resources offered in support of students' study the School provides a high standard of workstations including laboratories of PCs and Unix/Linux Workstations. The provision is at a ratio of 1 high quality workstation to every 3 students. These offer a wide range of operating systems and applications software including many industry standard applications. This School provision is in addition to the centralised computing facilities offered by the University through Computing and Library Services.</li>

The School of Computing and Engineering provides additional student support using a variety of approaches:
<ul>
<li>All students undertake an induction programme at the start of their studies.</li>
<li>All students have a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), with whom they should discuss academic difficulties. The PAT will refer tutees to central help facilities as appropriate.</li>
<li>A Guidance Team supports students with a wide range of Learning and Academic skills development (<a href="https://students.hud.ac.uk/unilife/sce/studentsupport/">Student Support - University of Huddersfield</a>), through seminars, workshops and 1-1 appointments.</li>
<li>A central computer-based attendance-monitoring scheme is operated and students with poor attendance are contacted and advised.</li>
