The University’s policy for Admissions is outlined in Section D of the Regulations for Awards Handbook (http://www.hud.ac.uk/registry/regulationsandpolicies/awards/).  In addition to the standard University requirements, candidates must meet the following criteria for admission to the Business and Management suite.
<ul>
<li>Specific entry requirements will be reviewed annually. Students should consult the UCAS website for current requirements (<a href="http://www.ucas.ac.uk">ucas.ac.uk</a>).</li>
<li>Mature students are considered on an individual basis</li>
<li>Candidates from other countries are expected to offer qualifications equivalent to the UK entry points on the UCAS tariff</li>
<li>In addition, candidates whose first language is not English are required to provide evidence of fluency through IELTS (minimum score 6.0), TOFEL (minimum score 550) or offer an equivalent qualification</li>
<li>Students wishing to study part-time will be invited to discuss requirements for the course with the course leader. International students may only study part time if it meets current UKBA visa regulations.</li>
<li>BA (Hons) Business with Supply Chain Management is delivered in partnership with the NOVUS trust, a non-profit industry led organisation promoting careers in supply chain management. Students on BA (Hons) Business with Supply Chain Management must pass a NOVUS trust run assessment centre prior to acceptance on the course. Students will then be able to access a full range of benefits provided by the NOVUS trust including mentoring and employment opportunities. This course is only run full time from September each year with all other university criteria listed above applying.</li>

In conjunction with their degree students will have the opportunity to become members of  the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).  The CMI supports a number of initiatives on the course allowing students to identify with the wider professional community

Organisations: this encompasses the internal aspects, functions and processes of organisations including the diverse nature, purposes, structure, size/ scale, governance, operations and management, together with the individual and corporate behaviours and cultures which exist within and between different organisations and their influence upon the external environment. Students on courses in the Business and Management Suite will be given the opportunity to develop skills in managing a project, team management and leadership. This will be achieved through group assessments where students are provided with business situations to complete independently (F/I/H).

Students will have an opportunity to engage with external organisations to understand business in practice through guest lectures, projects and company visits (F/I/H).

The business environment: this encompasses the fast pace of change within a wide range of factors, including economic, environment, cultural, ethical, legal and regulatory, political, sociological, digital and technological, together with their effects at local, national and global levels upon the strategy, behaviour, management and sustainability of organisations. Course approved by Chartered Management Institute on rolling basis.

Students will be supported by a number of staff associated with the course, as indicated below:
<ul>
<li>module tutors and module leaders, in the context of module-specific problems</li>
<li>year tutors: each year cohort will have a year tutor with specific responsibility for matters affecting the year group as a whole.</li>
<li>course leader, with responsibility for course-level issues and as an alternative source of support to year tutors</li>
<li>Business Placement Unit, which supports students in placement activity. Staff from the unit run a series of seminars at the beginning of the second year on the placement process, CV design, covering letters and interview techniques</li>
<li>placement supervisor: students are allocated a placement supervisor who visits the students in the company. The role of the supervisor is to meet the line manager, establish the nature of work assigned to the student, discuss progress of the student, assess and give formal and informal feedback and identify any problems</li>
<li>personal tutor system: all students will be allocated a personal tutor within the Department of Management. Personal tutoring for these students will be proactive and skills and learning focused, whilst also accommodating those with more specific difficulties</li>
<li>where students have special educational needs alternative assessment strategies or documentation formats may be provided. Student support is also available through huddesrfield Business School’s Learning Development Group (for example regarding dyslexia) and the University’s Disability Office.</li>
</ul>
In addition to staff-based support the course also has a Peer Mentorship Scheme. Peer Mentors are recruited on an annual basis from year 2 and the final year to support the year below. Peer Mentors receive support and training from the course’s Peer Mentor co-ordinator to fulfil their role with activities including both academic and social support.
